Alright folks, it’s been a seriously long time since I wrote. Some dear friends are wondering how I’ve been. Well, I’ll tell you this: Life is wonderful. And it’s exciting to live it – One challenge at a time!
Year 2006 is coming to a close. And during this time, when the clocks are ticking steadily towards midnight, our hearts cannot help but look back. Look back at the events that shaped our lives this year. Events that define the 365 days that just passed. The memory of some of these events brings tears of joy and a mystic smile to our face; an event of victory, an event of achievement, accomplishment and overcoming. Some others, bring tears and heart-wrenching pain; such as the loss of a loved one.
Then there are those events that shape your individuality. These are the ones that mature you, some make you stronger (even though at the time you feel it’s the worst that has ever happened to you), while others bring out the best in you that you never knew you had. Academic achievement, falling in love, financial challenges, misfortunes of a dear friend, falling out of love, health challenges, joyful times, phone conversations, new job, new degree, that new X-Box, long drives, times by yourself, time with someone you love and time you wish you had spent with that loved one who walked out of your life — Every single one of these events happened for a reason. One reason – to define our ‘life-experience’. To define US! To define the year 2006 in our life.
So what was the point of this year? Did we learn anything from 2006? How did it shape us? How did we mature by the experiences we had? Did we hurt anyone? If yes, how are we going to apologize? Did we make a positive difference in anyone’s life? How many new friends did we make this year? Did we make an effort to let our families, friends and loved ones know how much they mean to us? Or are we waiting for 2007 to go by to regret not having said anything? How do our financial statements look when compared to Jan 1, 2006? Are they better and more positive? Or did we splurge irresponsibly? How much charity did we give? How many gifts did we give? Were the gifts truthful or were they in lieu of something?
Some of these questions make us very uncomfortable, don’t they? But folks, that’s the definition of success, “How many people are better off because you existed”.
I hope all of you had a wonderful and a ’successful’ 2006. I wish you an even more ’successful’, happier and eventful 2007. May this year be the best year of your life, and not just a blip on your age chart. May you make a positive difference in others’ lives. May you make more new friends this year. And, if we screwed up some things in 2006, lets fix it in 2007.
Happy New Year!

Oh yay, you’re back – in writing ~ And with an enjoyably museworthy post to boot!
That’s a lot of questions – and musings, too – but so deftly expressed.
New life experiences leading as windows to new world-views: some inducing sorrow (and more reflective learning), some painful enough to remain etched in memory, some so joyous in a time bywhich we’ve learnt that such simple joys are ever so beautiful just by their sheer transience.
New Friendships (those borne of genuine thoughtfulness, not ties created from insincere, vested interests) made, yes! Your ‘in lieu of’ phrase was amusingly apt, yep.
Also liked the use of quotes for ’success’ ~ Does justice to the truth that ’success’ is still pretty much subjective/ dependent on every individual’s interpretation of it for her/himself.
Your post reminds me of an ‘ol fave quote (Will end with this, I promise) :
“Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; Some
blunders and absurdities crept in; Forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day; You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be
encumbered with your old nonsense.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson, writer & philosopher (1803-1882)
Have a great New Year, and may you always be blessed with bliss, peace, good health & success.
Stay cool & Wishes, minerva*
p.s. Sincere Minervan apologies for this thesis of a comment, eeps.. and agreeably interesting “pom-pom” theory towards the understanding of Self, I must say.

Wow! Thanks Minerva for that wonderful comment. Believe it or not, I actually wrote that post while I was listening to the music that plays on your blog. Quite soothing as well as inspirational
